River Ridge Church To Begin Services at Diamond Starz
We are thrilled to announce that River Ridge Church will be holding their Sunday service beginnning Sunday June 1st at Diamond Starz Academy. River Ridge is a 9 month old plant church in Douglasville and is associated with Westridge Church in Dallas. They will have a Sunday morning service at 1030am. This is really exciting for us as we partner with a new and growing church who is focused on building Gods kingdom.
River Ridge is lead by Sam Braswell.

We have out scored out opponents 146 to 36 over 13 games. We are undefeated going into our last game. Our hitting has improved 1000% and I credit the training package we purchased in early spring.

We wanted to thank you for so much for the drawing you did. Logan was so excited to be picked to win the baseball glove. It was perfect because he was able to pick it out on his 12th birthday! I just want you to know how much I appreciate what you do for us. Since Savannah has been coming to you, she has improved 200%. There is simply no comparison. Her pitching and hitting are phenominal. Her batting average right now is .637. She pitched her first 6 inning game after 6 months of lessons from Tim, and she struck out 18, walked 1, and had 1 hit. Plus her confidence is through the roof. To say that we are pleased would be the biggest understatement of the year.

FCA Baseball and Diamond Starz Academy Partnership Camp
Mon., July 21 - Thur., July 24

Diamond Starz is partnered with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes to offer this special FCA Baseball Camp. This camp will contain not only excellent baseball skills and activities but will also have special guest speakers, chapel times, biblical based integrity and character learning sessions and much much more. Participants will receive FCA Athletes Bibles, FCA T-shirts and more
FCA Baseball is a comprehensive national ministry that incorporates ministry to athletes and coaches at all levels of baseball: professional, college and youth. They conduct youth clinics and camps, coaches and parent seminars, and field various age levels of competitive teams for players and coaches to improve their baseball skills as well as grow spiritually. Diamond Starz Academy is an active partner with the FCA in the development of the FCA Baseball ministry locally and nationwide.
This camp will be held outdoors at Winston Baseball Park in Douglas County
In the case of rain the camp will be held indoors at Diamond Starz Academy on Hwy. 5 in Douglasville.
What Do You Get?

Baseball Class

This Fundamental baseball class for AGES 7-10 will be held weekly for 8 weeks through June and July. Dates include June 4, 11, 18, 25 and July 2,9,16,23.
Session 1 - Each Wednesday from 9am-11am - Sold Out!
Session 2 - Each Wednesday 12:30pm - 2:30pm
Participants will experience different aspects of baseball training that will help them understand what it takes to become a more skilled player. Additionally we will take some time to talk about character in baseball each day. The relational and spiritual part of training that is becoming part of the core of Developing a Total Athlete in Mind, Body and Spirit.Some of what the young athletes will learn include

Proper and efficient baseball swing mechanics.

Learn how to hit line drives instead of pop-ups.

Proper and safe bunting techniques that will help them lay down a successful bunt everytime.

Safe and efficient pitching and throwing mechanics.

Learn the right way to warm up the body prior to playing or practice.

How to position the hands and feet for successful ground ball fielding.

To efficiently run the bases and know how to read ground balls and fly balls as a base-runner.

- 2 time NFCA All Region
- 2 time Atlantic-10 Student-Athlete of the Year
- 2 time Atlantic-10 All Conference Team
- Holds career and single season records for the Colonials in batting average (.414), hits, stolen bases, on-base percentage, doubles, triples, and runs
- Ace of pitching staff freshman year where she was the only pitcher in the conference to have more strikeouts than innings pitched (118 Ks/116 innings)

Story that ran in the Douglas County Sentinel:
Matt Capps admits to being a perfectionist. While many Major League closers would be overjoyed after converting 18 of 20 saves and posting a 2.30 ERA in their first full season in that position with the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Alexander High graduate knows his career is just getting started.
"I want to be the best, and I want my team to be the best. We can always do better", said Capps Friday, as he took a short break from working with young athletes during the annual Diamond Starz Baseballl Clinc in Douglasville.

The annual two-day Diamond Starz Baseball Camp wrapped up Friday and was a
huge success, drawing a large group of campers plus an exceptional staff.
While much of the attention centered around former Alexander High and
current Pittsburgh Pirates closer Matt Capps, former Braves' pitcher Taylor
Phillips was also a central figure at the two-day camp.
At age 75, Phillips is still showing young athletes the finer points of
pitching. "The terms may have changed, but the basics are the same. There's not much
difference from my basic approach to pitching than that of John Smoltz,"
said Phillips.
Phillips, who lives in Hiram, still works with a group of young pitchers two
days every weeks at Diamond Starz.
"Working those two days keeps me busy, Other than that, I relax and spend
time with my wife (Betty) and five kids, who are spread out all over the
country," said Phillips. "During my career I missed a lot of time with my
wife and I'm trying to give some of that back to her." Phillips was a longtime coach of the Douglasville American Legion Post 145
squad and still helps with the summer program.
Phillips also attends many functions held by the Atlanta Braves. He attended
the David Justice Hall of Fame ceremonies and the Braves 50th year in
Atlanta ceremony. He pitched for the Milwaukee Braves and was a member of
their 1956 World Series team.
Phillips has been involved with various holiday baseball camps in the area
over the past decade.
Other major league players involved in the Diamond Starz Camp were New York
Mets pitcher Dave Williams.
